USPS Delivery Confirmation vs. UPS Tracking Numbers

THE TRUTH ABOUT TRACKING:  When United Parcel Service grabbed a strong hold on the Domestic Shipping Industry, they introduced Tracking Numbers to help a shipper and recipient track the status of a package while in transit.  A few years later, their competitors had to follow suit.  Federal Express also uses tracking numbers, and the US Postal Service uses them on Express Mail (U.S. overnight service) items.  Approximately 98% of SME Customer Service, Inc.’s shipments are via the US Postal Service.  If you have chosen Express Mail, Tracking and up to $100 Insurance are included at no charge.  If you have chosen Priority Mail, First Class, Parcel Post or Media Mail, SME pays for a Delivery Confirmation Number.  Although the US Postal Service is somewhat ambiguous at times on this subject, a USPS Delivery Confirmation Number is NOT a tracking number.  Depending on the path your package takes on its journey to you, it may be scanned once or twice along the way, or it may not be scanned at all, until it is delivered.  Information is updated nightly, but please do not rely on Delivery Confirmation information for the tracking of parcels.  As a local Post Office Window Agent once whispered to me out of earshot of his supervisor, “The time to check the Delivery Confirmation info at USPS.COM is when your customer notifies you that he has NEVER received his package.”

We ship hundreds of packages with the US Postal Service each month, and they have lost only two or three of our packages during the last several years.  This is why we continue to use their services!

Our Choice of Packing Materials

SME Customer Service, Inc, is concerned about our planet and the use of non-recyclable packing materials.  You can rest assured that SME has never bought and will never buy any packing materials that are not made of recyclable materials. Even our bubble wrap is recycled!  Yes, it costs a little more, but it’s important to us!  If you happen to receive an SME shipment that is packed with Styrofoam or other non-recyclable materials, you can rest assured these materials were sent to us by a vendor and are being used for (at least) the second time around.  Likewise, we encourage you to reuse any packing materials sent to you the next time you are sending a package, including our recycled bubble wrap!  If we all work together, we can stop filling our landfills with unnecessary materials that will never decompose in our lifetimes, our children’s lifetimes, and perhaps not even in our grandchildren’s lifetimes!

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPINGEffective November 15, 2005, SME Customer Service, Inc., has opened our auctions to international bidders and international shippers.  This is due to tremendous response from the international community when we discontinued international service several months earlier, and is also due to the US Postal Service

allowing Express Mail International (R) and Priority Mail International (R) shipments to be created online.

So...welcome back, International eBayers...we’re happy to offer you two choices in shipping once again!
